This week honors the influential power of fashion, beauty and photography.
The video series from Cut that showcases 100 years of beauty in under two minutes is fascinating. Being half Indian though, I am especially transfixed by this one.
While not always celebrated, the impact a costume designer has on creating a character is profound. With her work on Orange is the New Black (yay season 3 is here!), costume designer Jenn Rogien creates a character with incredibly subtle cues “a lip color here, untucked socks there.”
A very high fence, one that I often contemplate attempting to scale, surrounds the abandoned buildings of Admirals Row in Brooklyn. Just a glimpse of the top of buildings is intriguing. Thanks to Curbed’s Camera Obscura series, I am able to dive deep into these abandoned buildings before they are torn down.
Still kicking myself for not visiting New Mexico when I had the chance. For now, have to transport myself there with this rich, colorful fashion spread at Taos Pueblo expertly styled by Natalie Joos.
So saddened to hear about the latest woes for the Gap. When I worked at the Gap in high school, I first fell in love with fashion and learned the importance of strong branding. I have since followed its ups and downs. Hoping after this, it is posed for a major upswing.
